You find yourself in a waiting room missing the days when they used to be littered with all kinds of magazines and you could usually find something that stirred some level of interest in you. Right now you’d be happy to have anything…and then you remember that you have your phone with you. Your phone has Libby on it, and, thanks to your library card you have immediate access to hundreds of magazines. Hundreds, like 3900!!! Whether you’re interested in cooking or gardening or fishing or fashion you can have a magazine you’ll LOVE in your hands in seconds. So. Many. Magazines! Also useful if you’re home snuggled under a blankie and just don’t even feel like getting up! You should also know that unlike other digital formats available via Libby, magazines check out simultaneously, so, whatever you find WILL be available to you RIGHT NOW.
Those of us who grew up with physical books are pretty likely to prefer that reading experience. Then you find yourself packing for a bit of a trip and you want to be certain you have plenty of reading material with you,and, suddenly, downloading half a dozen titles to your notebook or phone seems like a wonderful space and weight saving idea. Plus, it’s easy to get more if you read through the ones you brought with you. Also useful if you finish a title in a series too early in the evening to go to bed, but, too late in the day to race for the library for the next title up. Well, we can’t promise you that your chosen title will be available. But, it might be. There’s a portion of the collection called the Lucky Day collection. They are popular titles that are available today. Other copies of the title may be available…or you can place a hold on them.
You have a long drive coming up or a long, boring job you need to accomplish (does anybody polish silver,, anymore?) or your hands are busy with a craft project and you’d love to involve your ears and your brain with something, as well. Libby offers you access to 28,439 audiobooks. For free. If you can’t find something of interest, you are just not interested in anything.
Libby is a wonderful resource. If you don’t have it you should get it. Free from your app store. Submit your name and library card # and be sure to choose your library/library system. (Forest Lodge Library, Cable or Northern Waters Library Service) Many library systems, including ours, in addition to being members of the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium and having access to their collection, maintain our own “Advantage” collection, meaning we purchase additional copies of highly requested titles as well as items of area interest and those titles are only available to our patrons! You may use or may have used the Overdrive App. Libby is owned by Overdrive and they feel that Libby offers the best reading experience for all users. As of February of 2022 you’ll no longer be able to download the Overdrive app from play/app stores. Existing Overdrive users will be able to continue to use the app, although system support will, eventually, sunset.
