CONVICTION by Denise Mina
I’ve been reading Denise Mina for awhile and always look forward to new titles. Although we acquired CONVICTION in July, it just worked its way to the top of my list this month. A stand-alone, I found it a fun read and rather a wild ride. The way it begins…does not give you much of any idea how it’s going to end!
Anna McDonald, a podcast and true crime devotee, likes to get up early in the morning to get a bit of alone time with her coffee and whatever she may be listening to. A bit of calm before her husband and young daughters get up and the day’s whirl begins. She begins to listen to Death and the Dana and is shocked to hear that one of the dead is someone she knew. Marginally, but, she did know him. It takes her back to a place in her life between a horrible time and where she is now. Or, where she was until this morning.
This novel races back and forth through time and geography and is, to borrow one of the celebrity author quotes on the book jacket, “A dark star of a novel, blazingly intense, up-to-the-minute fresh, and exciting as all hell.” (A.J.Finn.) Enjoy the ride!
