Right around a year ago the Forest Lodge Library signed up for a subscription to the streaming service KANOPY which gave our patrons access to thousands of films, documentaries and t.v. series as well as hundreds of The Great Courses. We know you’ve enjoyed and appreciated the service, because you’ve told us so! We are now letting you know that things are changing…a bit. Now the Northern Waters Library Service has taken on a subscription that will cover all member libraries in our Consortium making KANOPY available to all Northern Waters patrons…not just a select few! We think this is a marvelous development.
Our individual platform will be discontinued as of March 1st, although you will have access through the existing link, https://www.kanopy.com/en/forestlodgelibrary/, until March 15th.
Before March 15th, 2023, please create a new account, using your same email address and password as your current account, on the new Northern Waters Library Service platform: https://northernwaters.kanopy.com. You will have access to the same films and tv shows/series as your current library platform on the new NWLS platform. Your Watch List, Continue Watching, and Custom Playlist items will also transfer over to your new account.
So…not so tough…and you will lose nothing!
You will still have 5 monthly credits per account. Yes, if your household has more than one library card you can have more than one KANOPY account!
Each movie or series episode will cost you a credit…unless it’s an A & E or History Channel series. Those entire series are included for a credit. Once you’ve used up your 5 credits…you’ll have to wait until next month to check out more. (EXCEPT…every month there are Credit Free Films available!)
Titles check out for 72 hours. If you fall asleep watching something the first evening, it won’t cost you another credit to pick up where you left off, within that 72 hours.
Great Courses check out for 30 days and do not count against your 5 credits per month! You may check out 2 per month.
Kanopy Kids will allow a family 30 days of access to the entire Kanopy Kids collection, and also does not count as one of your 5 credits per month.
IF you try to play something and all you get is the unending spiral of death…try downloading the Kanopy app. Make your viewing selection again and you should, now, have no problems!
If you haven’t previously signed up for Kanopy, here’s where it’s done! You’ll need your library card #…and, of course, be sure to keep track of your username (email) and the password you assign yourself.
This will take you to a screen requiring you to input your patron barcode, a.k.a. library card #. (If you don’t quite know where your card is, give the library a call at 715-798-3189 or email, email@example.com. and we’ll remind you of your library card number.) If you are a Cable/Namakagon patron you’ll be forwarded to the Kanopy home page. Here you’ll be required to create an account. As always, we encourage you to write down your username and password so you’ll be able to log in to all your devices!
After that all you have to do is figure out what the heck to watch! We expect you’ll find the watchlist feature very useful!
