I really enjoy a thrilling mystery, so was really excited to see this title pop up and ready for check out on my Libby app when I needed to travel down to Madison for a recent library training. This is the first Rachel Hawkins book that I’ve read or listened to, but after finishing this one, I’m very interested in exploring more that she’s written. It was quite enjoyable and kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to hear more – a good listen for a long trip, it made the travel go by swiftly.
Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodward Miller Kenmore (isn’t that quite the name) has died and left an estate and the fortune that goes with it to her son, Camden. Widowed four times over and the victim of a famous kidnapping from her childhood, the story unfolds as we hear from her and from different perspectives and family members as well. As it goes along, Ruby, of course, uncovers different clues and hidden family secrets – some that come to be expected and some not so expected.
Much to everyone’s surprise, Camden really doesn’t want anything to do with his inheritance, but is summoned to return to his home when he learns of his uncle’s death. He brings along his wife, Jules, who really, up until this point, has not had much to do with his family and is not very aware of all of the twisted secrets they hold.
As the story is coming closer to its end, what I really loved about it was that it seemed that every time there was a question answered, a new more intriguing question (or even questions) would emerge.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery! The chapters are short, the way it was written really kept me wanting to hear more! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! We have a copy at our Forest Lodge Library, there are also several copies available within the Northern Waters Library System and it’s available on the Libby app!
